General Overview
School Avoidance is defined as a student’s refusal to attend school on a regular basis or has difficulties staying in school for a sustained period of time. Student’s may avoid school to cope with stress or anxiety for a vast number of reasons. A collaborative approach is required in order to increase the student’s school engagement, which includes goal-directed participation by the caregivers, school team, student, and support staff.
